The Talisay Beach Landing Memorial is a monument that commemorates the landing on March 26, 1945 of the U.S. 8th Army headed by Commanding General William H. Arnold and Captain Albert T. Sprague with the help of the Filipino guerrillas. The landing was part of General Douglas McArthur’s strategy to recapture Cebu and the nearby provinces from the Japanese Imperial Army. Cebu was ultimately liberated on March 27, 1945 with the Japanese surrendering on August 28, 1945.

Not only are the statues kitsch-looking and ill-proportioned, but the entire monument is visually distracted by too much lamp posts and the rails. I hope this could be replaced tastefully in the future.
