Heritage of Cebu Monument
The Heritage of Cebu Monument is a tableau designed and built by Filipino sculptor Eduardo Delos Santos Castrillo. It was commissioned by the Archdiocese of Cebu.
The monument features some of Cebu’s important heritage sites and events. It is located at the former plaza of Barangay Parian and sits at the very same site where the Saint John the Baptist church once stood.
During the 19th-century, the residents of Parian, mostly Chinese-Filipinos, came in conflict with the bishop of the then diocese of Cebu. The ensuing conflict resulted to the demotion of the church’s parish status and its eventual demolition as the years went by.
Within the vicinity of the monument is the Yap-Sandiego House and the Jesuit House of 1730. A few walks away from it too is the Casa Gorordo.
