Fort San Pedro

Bastion de San Miguel
Fort San Pedro is a fortification built upon the orders of Miguel López de Legazpi to protect the Spanish settlement that he founded in Cebu. Construction of the fort which was originally of wooden palisades began on May 8, 1565. The present stone structure however dates to 1833 as indicated by a carved bas-relief at the entrance to the fort.

Triangular in shape, the fort is the smallest in the country. It has three bastions namely, La Concepcion, San Miguel, and Ignatio de Loyola. There are two buildings inside, one which housed the personnel that manned the fort and the other one which contained the quarter of the lieutenant.
Fort San Pedro is located in Plaza Independencia, a vast archaeological field which yielded pre-Spanish artifacts such as a gold death mask, pre-Hispanic burials and Chinese pottery.
