The summary of holy relicts in Cebu is quite impressive. One more reason to visit Cebu and thumbs up to those who do preserve the Cebu heritage.

The plan says "CORO BAJO," which would mean the lower choir. I don't this points out to a choir, or quire, in its liturgical and architectural sense. The choir, with its stalls (silleria) and lectern (facistol), meant for divine office, or for the choir of canons, is always placed contiguous to the sanctuary of the church, its floor being the surface on which the gradine of the principal altar rests. The floor of the altar is called predella. We see from the plan a two-column space between the "altar mayor" and the "coro bajo."

Note: In accordance with the tradition of Spain, the cathedral choirs of the Philippines are separated from the nave by ornate iron grilles.

Wolfranz, yes indeed it looks similar to San Ignacio's. Anyway I think the altar can still be restored. They just covered the front lower portion with a thin concrete slab. According to a friend who is a priest, the slab was built to support the retablo which was leaning and in danger of falling to the sanctuary. Funding is what is needed here I guess and the cooperation of everyone.

A restoration should indeed come. Are those changes reversible?

Also, I have found out that the retablo is a spitting (albeit simplified) image of the retablo of San Ignacio in Intramuros, said to be the most ornate of the former eight churches of the walled city. An image could be found here:

Someone should start to know the difference between an altar and a retablo. Think before you make a comment. That is if you even have a brain.

Do you even know what you're talking about? It seems like you are making statements, twisting some of them, just for the sake of having a reply and putting this image down.

Why would hyping be the cause of the loss of these valuable treasures if there are other pretty obvious reasons? If an image was painted with the wrong paint, it is not because of hyping local talent but because of the priest's ignorance towards the value of the thing. If a retablo is torn down or if a church is modified, it is not because of hyping but because of a priest's wrong conviction.

And if that is what you believe, then wouldn't it be better if you burn your stone church too for the fourth time around because after all it was built using local talent and it looks very primitive anyway compared to the great churches of Europe? And to think that you adore so much those primitive looking images that were carved by a hermit in Barili.

Thus I still do not see any connection with your hyping issue and the loss of heritage. It seems that you are just making a comment because YOU and YOUR FRIENDS are BITTER against Carlo. Well, we all know what the connection is. Admit it. If you don't know, ask your friend who uses a carroza that looks like an entry to the Panagbenga Festival.

And how shameless of you to even attempt to borrow one of his images for a certain exhibit in the seminary while you and your cohorts keep on backbiting him in Flickr? Or maybe there is a dark purpose why you are befriending him and borrowing the image? Trying to get some "information" perhaps to relay to your accomplices?

Me no credentials? And what credentials do you have to pit against mine? Have you even done anything productive and significant aside from ranting, gossiping, backbiting and watching porn?

People like you do not deserve a place in the seminary or in any seminary elsewhere. Freaks with an attitude problem like you are the reasons why there are so many problematic priests nowadays. Please do not give the church a headache. I wonder what on Earth have you been smoking that you are involving yourself with so many people that have not even done anything against you in the first place.

Better for you to be indoctrinated in the protestant sect. You deserve to be an alter-ego of Eli Soriano.

The examples I gave are not about hyping?
Let me define hype:
1. when someone gets excited about something
2. a fad. a form of presentation when a product is advertised as THE thing that everyone must have.

Fine. I thought you wouldn't need further explanation to find the connection.

First: a hyping attitude--especially about local talent--leads to false exaltation of abilities. To the extent of leaving restoration efforts to untrained hands. If I were to have my antiques restored, I would have them restored by true experts not just by any artist whom I see "great potential". When you hype, you get so excited about the abilities of a certain person to the extent of exalting that person as an expert. In heritage advocacy, one must not give in to these feelings because one may leave the work to these hyped personalities who eventually may not do the work well.

Second: Santander's Immaculada Concepcion, I have heard, have been repainted with ENAMEL because the parish priest, hyped at the ability of one painter, left the repainting job to the said painter. The painter, not knowing the real steps of anitque restoration, just painted anyway. The result? A super pale-faced image mimmicking that of ivory but tend to look like a SCARY doll. Because of the priest's hype at he painter, he left the restoration works at the wrongs hands.

Opon's Church was destroyed because the religious order was hyped at the idea of a new form of architecture. They were very into modern architecture and wanted the old Church destroyed at once. The effect? A new Church whose beauty cannot compare to the original one. The main cause of the destruction? Authorities' erroneous decision caused by hype.

If you still haven't seen the connection, you Mr. Author hyped the abilities of that local sculptor. And to think, you sound so authoritative. You even don't have the credentials to do so. What worries me is that those who aren't critical enough like me follow your advice and such.

I sound like a broken record? Whatever. At least my opinions are well founded. I too may be guilty of hype. I just got too excited to bash your article.
Outspoken whore? Well, we'll just see. Provoke me and I might spill what I know.

Bitterness? What for? Enviousness? What for?

Lastly, I am not against the image. I am against the hyping attitude of many Cebuanos who think that hyping helps those who they are hyping. If you think you know what you're saying, show me what you've got. Wala ka nga'ng imahen ng santo na maipagmamalaki eh. Buti nga I am now exposed to many good works of art here in Bulacan. Sana nga you'll eventually find out what's truly good and what's not. I will always be fine with images that do not meet true standards. It's the people who strongly argue for them whom I cannot stand.
