The week-long Sinulog festival opened yesterday led by officials from the Cebu City government. Students from various schools dressed up to represent the different countries of the ASEAN while dancing to the Sinulog beat. Cebu was recently named as an ASEAN city of culture and this year’s festival opening carried a theme relative to the honor bestowed by the ASEAN ministers of culture and the arts.

The week-long festival will culminate with the Sinulog Grand Parade on Sunday, January 15. A day before that there will be a fluvial procession in the morning followed by a grand procession of the revered Santo Niño de Cebu in the afternoon which will pass through the main streets of the city.

Various activities have been laid-out all throughout the week. Some of the activities include the Metro Cebu Popular Music Festival, Sinulog Festival Queen 2012 and the Miss Cebu 2012 Coronation Night. Cultural shows are also performed at the Fuente Osmeña Circle every night.
